WikiReader:Wikipedia in Spanish (Work in Progress)

The procces is not full ready yet, it fails due issues on articles with different codding(utf8/Latin1) , and I can just proccess the 40% of the Spanish Wikipedia , but here is a sample of the Spanish Wikipediar Wikipedia running on WikiReader

Once the proccess can run without errors, Openmoko is working on it, I will post a howto on how to do so, I advice in advance that is a long proccess, not for it's complexity but for the amount of data to process (1,6 Gb of text in Spanish, 3,5Gb on German) in a Quadcore with 4Gb de Ram it can last for 24-36h in create the files for the WikiReader, But don't worry Openmoko will put this files for download soon :) , Meanwhile you can take a look at the code of the device and it's tool in it's github

Languages

Hello David, thanks for the future tutorial (i'm interested also in the Czech language version so I probably will need to make files by myself - and the problems with different encodings will probably the same). I assume it is not technicaly possible to have several language version on card and load selected one during boot?

Nice to know that devices will be available, many thanks.

By the way, I'm a very happy used of the Freerunner from your shop (it is my only phone for several months).

Best regards

Various languages at time

Well this discussion has been pointed on the openmoko list, saying that work is progress is too much, but good ideas on how to implement it has been discussed, basically is to have a languages separated on directories ,on boot scan for those directories and present a menu to select. But support for directories and that menu has to be implemented .

And real device?

It sounds very nice! Hope you will be able to prepare also some other languages...

And how about WikiReader availability in the TuxBrain e-shop?

Yes is a real device :)

It's the sample unit I bought to Openmoko and this ugly pictures can only be taken on a real device by an amateur cameraman in poor light conditons :P
I have also repeat the procces in German language, but same problems as in Spanish with codification, so I'm waiting for the problem to be solved and I will repeat both process again and also publish a tutorial on how to do it yourself to include any languages(at least with same/similar alphabet) you want.
Soon I will have units in stock stay tunned, but I can't say how much it will cost until they arrive, customs and taxes are very unpredictable.
