Openmoko new device:WikiReader
As they have advised the new Openmoko Inc. device has nothing in common with his previous product the Neo FreeRunner, its an amazing simple idea, a portable Wikipedia reader, the WikiReader.

It's shipped with a SD card with all english wikipedia and a simple and easy to use browser that make the content ready to go.
it has a 240x200 monocrome touchscreen, and four buttons, one for on/of , search with an on screen keyboard, history, and random.
Works with two AAA standard batteries that due the low consumption of the device last for months Once I(or someone else in the comunity) get in my hands will see how to put the spanish wikipedia or any other content. Due the Open policy about his products I'm confident the WikiReader can become a fun low power comsuntion device to hack. Willing to have one in my hands and to add in our catalog soon :)

Well, 240x200 is still much
Well, 240x200 is still much more than resoluti of classic Palm PDAs. So it should be relatively OK. For now I'm only curious about available RAM. Chipset specifications say that there can be 2-64 MB but I assume that real RAM size will be near the lower limit. So I'm more and more interested in this device... ;-)
Interesting...
Interesting device, I must say. But I'm curious about several things. Is it able to show images (at least monochome ones - equations, for example)?
Also, it might be usefull to install some other applications on it (like calculator, note taking application an so on). I hope it will be possible.
I'm also interested to solve
I'm also interested to solve this questions too :), but due his open nature I can easy imagine some apps can be added/created to doing that.
Regarding Images/equations, I have to take a look at least to the screen specifications by the way it draw the keyboard I guess some basic graphical capabilities , the main constrain I gess will be resolution 240x200 is no much room for details. but Japaness chars looks quite good so I thing there is some place to hope a basic monochrome image render.
