FOSDEM2010, from inside in a corner

Hi, following is an abstract of our livings on FOSDEM2010, I have tried to sort it chronologically but due pics and videos are from different sources,there are more than 150 pics and more than 60 vid and there beer runs like water and as you can notice there, english is not my language, I beg you to forgive me the wrong order, wrong or lack of names and general fails that might be here.

Friday 5th Febrary 2010

Victor, David & Jose Luis(our veteran FOSDEMite) march to Brusels,

Finding old and new friends on the way

On a train to Brusels, geeks full of joy!!!

Using  NanoNote as music player to make the travel funnier.

On the way we make some tour in town, Brusels is wet but awesome.

After left the baggage on the hotel, more tourism in town, we also confirm a myth, Big Mac(tm) taste different in Belgium than in Spain.

we visit what will be the Beer Party zone later.

This stain in wall has a lot of meaning to me, I have the stange(and useless) ability to find paper clips in unusual places and situations, and what a surprise to find a "paper clip" like stain in the bar entrance , maybe destiny?

when there is beer and desserts take a while...

after eating we decide to take a nap but, there where little cool devices, wifi so...

... so after a geek way relax, we go to the Beer party, we arrive very early...

 and taking advance we found a dude to talk about our little toys, we go to dinner.
 
No body has prepared us to what we found in the come back, the most higher concentration of thirsty geek by square meter!!!

and that's how the night ended , I have commented we had waken up at 4:00 AM?

Very early to no miss anything , we take the bus to go to FOSDEM

Talking about things in the way, Rafa we miss you :)

Ladys and Gentel man, with you the FOSDEM!!!

Walking arround we found  Bas and he made us a private demo of Iris.

And from here things change radicaly in our plans, our intention was be mere visitors, put some flyers and stickers in a table, the talk scheduled, and assist to some talks we have planned but thanks to Hackable Devices and Wim Vandepute de Kd85, from visitors we became expositors!!!, so we have to improvise with borrowed sheets and marker some  info labels and indicators and talk and talk and talk, I have shoelaces in my tonge of saying Copyleft Hardware :)

and due the amount of people interested we can move very little, we have a lot of material on the stand beside us, specially form the 3D printers like the MakerBot

Still, either to  make the talk(video pending on FOSDEM publication), or to take a little break , we can take some rec some info from the outside world beyond our stand.

Here is my new heroe, from Openmoko.fr, making the bugfix 1024 with a simple iron and a Swiss army knife in a little space in the corner of our table

and time to go,contrary feelings, willing to rest, willing to stay on the run

Guys of Hackable Devices has invited us to dinner in a Mexican restaurant in Brussels ... dificult to become mor international in a day:P

And that's me fighting to not felt sleep in subway

Due a little "incident" in the bus, we must get off and wait for the next one, so we decide to do some tourism again and...

 to make a claim to Taxi drivers' guild of Brussels

How many geeks fit in a bus? the answer is A LOT.

I have tried, taken advantage in the fact that was early and there were not much people arround, to make some Nanonote demos but as soon as I boot it a lot of eyes and anxious hands willing to play with it apears, no way to do the demos on the stand.

On this video , Hackable Devices guys tell us about how Maker Bot works (in english)

and before the  Jon & Mirko's talk about  Qi Hardware & Ben NanoNote , we came into one of the most silence and calm places of FOSDEM, the santa santorum of developers, the Hacker Room.
There were Mirko L., Mirko V., Lars y Michael hacking on  NanoNote

There was still some strength, battery and space on disk to rec a farewell

and at least when I arrive home, I can make the demos on Ben NanoNoteY por fin, cuando llegue a casa pude grabar las demos de Ben NanoNote, that's what our improvised stand visitors have play with

And that's all, which is not few, Is not the same see it than feel it, but I hope for those that can't assist to FOSDEM, our post beside a little bit limitated by impossibility of movement, make arrive some of the ambient that was there, and to those who were there help to revival thouse moments.

CONCLUSION: I left fosdem with one clear idea in mind, WE ARE LEGION!
