Debian runs on the Ben NanoNote!
Thanks to our friends and great supporters at pyneo.org we can announce the availability of a Debian compatible kernel and two different Debian ubi rootfs files. One is a minimal Debian and the other additionally contains everything you need to compile on the Ben.
We hope Debian can serve as a platform for rapid prototyping on the Ben. With more than 20000 packages it comes as a huge playground for testing ideas and creating new projects. The process is still in its early stages, but we have been impressed by the synergies created in the community and are confident that together we can establish Debian as a second standard distribution for the Ben NanoNote.
Debian in general is as a great addition to our strategy. It will enable users and developers to quickly try out something on the Ben. Once the software is stable and production ready it will be ported to OpenWrt, which will remain our main build system. This means developers won’t need to spend time porting all libs first, but instead can focus on bringing great software to the Ben. We strongly believe that a small and highly customizable distribution is the best basis for software running on an embedded device such as the Ben.
For details on how to flash Debian onto your NanoNote check the pyneo.org website.
If you don’t have a Ben NanoNote yet, you can get them in our shop or from one of our distributors.
